The article presents a study which was realized in order to assess the potential impact of the wounding by the moose on the wood quality, tree survival and management activities in the affected stands. The relationships between a wound size, a wound age, a forest type and the infection by strong decayers have been determined. Six fungi with a proven ability to cause the damage of decay have been isolated. It is emphasized that the incidence of the infection by fungi with a notable decay potential was not significantly correlated with a wound size or a forest type. Conclusions are drawn that the strongest correlation was between a wound age and the incidence of an infection.
