[Levels of vitamin A for laying hens]

Two experiments were conducted with Single Comb White Leghorn hens in order to study the effects of different levels of vitamin A supplementation on eggs production, egg weight, feed consumption, feed efficiency and incidence of blood spots. In the trial 520 layers, 24 weeks of age, were fed different levels of vitamin A (0 to 12 000 IU/kg of feed) with increments of 1 000 IU. Egg production, egg weight and feed consumption were decreased after 140 days with 1 000 IU of supplemental vitamin A. The lowest incidence of blood spots was observed with 7 000 IU. The estimated levels for maximum egg production and egg weight were 3 567 and 3 247 IU/kg feed respectively.

Para determinar el mejor nivel de vitamina A para obtener una maxima produccion y peso del huevo, consumo de alimento, optima conversion alimenticia y una menor incidencia de manchas de sangre en el huevo, se realizaron dos experimentos con gallina Leghorn blanca. Se emplearon 520 gallinas de 24 semanas de edad. Se utilizaron 13 tratamientos 0-12000 UI vitamina A/kg alimento con incremento de 1 000 UI. El peso del huevo solo fue diferente con el tratamiento (P.05) de 5 000 UI. El mejor nivel para obtener menor cantidad de manchas de sangre fue 7 000 UI. Los valores estimados para produccion y peso del huevo fueron 3 567 y 3 247 UI de vitamina A/kg alimento.
