Response of thirteen varieties of bush snapbeans to inoculation

Reduction of nitrogen input through Biological Nitrogen Fixation (BNF) is an important component of sustainable agricultural systems. This study revealed that inoculation of Rhizobium phaseoli or chicken dung application significantly increased the marketable fresh pod yield and harvest index (HI) of bush snapbean under La Trinidad [Benguet, Philippines] condition. Among the 13 varieties evaluated, Royal Nel registered the significantly highest number of root nodules per plant while Hab 414 produced the significantly heaviest root nodules per plant and marketable pods per plant. Significantly highest number of pods (14.19) and HI (57.28 percent) were recorded in Hab 63. No significant interaction effect between inoculation and varieties of bush snap bean was noted in all the characters measured
