On-farm research and outreach as a strategy of facilitating technology transfer

Adoption of technologies could be enhanced by involving the farmers in the planning, decision-making, and implementation of appropriate technologies. One of the common problems in corn and rice farmers is their inability to test and avail of the recently developed planting materials and management technologies. Providing the farmers technology options which may be appropriate to his farming conditions is one of the objectives of on-farm research. These technologies can include newly developed rice or corn varieties, appropriate fertilizer management techniques and recently developed integrated pest management strategies. Through organized field days, farmers, extension workers, and local government officials are able to view these technologies thus, facilitating technology transfer
