Histology and seasonal changes in the oviducts of Lissemys punctata

Oviductal histology and seasonal changes in the oviducts of green river turtle Lissemys punctata has been described. Monthly changes in the oviductal weight were observed and it showed a well defined seasonal variation. As breeding season approaches the oviducts become thick, their blood supply increases and because of this there is an increase in the weight of the oviduct. Maximum weight was recorded in July. After this there was a decline in the weight of the oviducts and it decreased gradually till November. In December, however, there was again a pronounced increase in the oviduct weight.
