Response of different lawn grasses to various nitrogen levels under the climatic conditions of Peshawar [Pakistan]

The effect of different levels of nitrogen on different cultivars of lawn grasses were studied at Ornamental Horticultural Nursery, N.W.F.P. Agricultural Peshawar during 1991-92. Significantly larger plant height (6.9 cm), clipping production (415.9 g) and colour development (3.0) were found by application of 2 g N/ft2 while significantly highest number of runners (8.8), number of weeds (13.9) and number of dormant days (26.6) were in control. Among cultivars maximum number of runners/plug (10.3), plant height (9.0 cm), clipping production (656.3 g) were in 'Dacca grass' while cultivar Korean excels for the days taken to new growth (25.8), and tillers/plug (20.8), number of weeds (19.2) and number of dormant days (33.8). Colour development was more in 'American' grass.
