Radiation for induced mutation in mungbean (Vigna radiata (L. Wilczek))

Dry seed of two mungbean varieties was exposed to various gamma rays to produce genetically variant genotypes for various development characters like, plant height, number of pods per length, number of seed per pod and 1000 seed weight. The results of analysis showed a greater variability in all the characters except 1000 gram weight. The highest magnitude of variability was observed in plant height, i.e., 54.33 percent increase over respective control. While lowest proportion of variability was recorded in pod length.
