Ionic composition of 25 cotton genotypes was studied by raising the plants in solution culture at different salinity levels. Na+ and Cl- contents of all cotton genotypes were increased while K+ and K+:Na+ ratios were decreased with the increase in salinity. Varieties NIAB78 and MUT909 were found halophytic in nature as they accumulated high Na+ and Cl- contents in shoot with comparable amounts of K+. Whereas glycophytic ones MNS79, MS84, LH203, LH62 and FH248 had lower contents of Na+ and Cl-, and higher of K+. The data on K+:Na+ ratio in different salinity levels were classified into five groups.
