Competitive uptake of nutrients by spring barley and weeds
1996
Parylak, D. (Agricultural Academy, Wroclaw (Poland). Dept. of Soil and Plant Cultivation)
Dry matter and nutrients uptake of barley and weeds were determined at four stages of barley growth: tillering, heading, flowering and maturity. The highest weed dry matter (191 g per square m) was found at harvest. Dominant species in weed infestation was Chenopodium album. It was estabilished that in every term the percentage of main mineral components in weeds is higher than in spring barley. Weeds participation in total uptake of nutrients was high: at harvest weeds uptook 28 percent of nitrogen and phosphorus, 36 percent of potassium and 56 percent of calcium. The most dangerous competition for the nutrients was Chenopodium album because of its high mass and nutrient content
