Contamination of plants with heavy metals coming from the soil and current emission of copper foundry "Glogow"

The problem of contamination corn, hemp, horse-bean, carrot, lettuce, cabbage by heavy metals (Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd) which are cultivated near copper foundry were investigated. The studies revealed that plants contamination depended to a great extent on the current emission and not only on the concentration of heavy metals in the soil. The content of these metals especially copper and lead in plant grown in the visibility of copper foundry was much higher than in those cultivated on the same soil transported outside the emission region. In the case of carrot a particularly high level of metals concentration was found in the peels. It was also found that stalks, leaves pods and coat corncobs were more contaminated than seeds and corn
