The more important findings were as follows: 1. In the soils of properties favourable for plant yielding, the intensive development of bacteria was followed by the weaker growth of fungi. But in the acidified, unfertile soils the growth of fungal flora was promoted. So, the ratio of the number of bacteria to the number of fungi may be proposed as one of the indices of soil fertility. 2. A mathematical model of the Biological Index of Soil Fertility (F) - for light and medium soils was formulated on the base of the results of the long-term field experiment
