[Study of a control strategy on the citrus white fly, Aleurothrixus floccosus Mask]

A study was realized of the effect in the control of the immature stages of the woolly whitefly, Aleurothrixus floccosus Mask., of 11 pesticides as well as the toxicity of these pesticides over its natural enemies: The parasitoids, Cales noacki How. and Lysiphlebus testaceipes (Gresson) and the predator Rodolia cardinalis Muls. All the pesticides tested are quite noxious on whitefly and its natural enemies. The results show that the highest mortality rate is achieved with methomyl, carbosulfan and imidacloprid. A significant mortality (p less than 0.01) is reached with respect to the control test in all stages of development of the whitefly. At the same time, the mentioned insecticides cause a high mortality on useful insects (more than 80 per cent). According to the results, the most effective pesticides against the whitefly, that at the same time respect its natural enemies, are milbemectine, abamectine and protiophos. The abamectine is the pesticide that most respects the useful insects: C. noacki How, L. testaceipes and R. cardinalis with a mortality rate of 66.7 per cent, 13 per cent and 42.43 per cent, respectively. At the moment of realizing the chemical treatment against the whitefly, the natural enemies should be taken into account as well as the seasonal tendency of its population dynamics to be able to realize an effective strategy of integrated pest management.
