Hop growing with grass undersow
1996
Majer, D. (Institut za hmeljarstvo in pivovarstvo, Zalec (Slovenia))
Two techniques of hop growing were tested: conventional and environmentally friendly, grass undersow. Fertilization with nitrogen has been done on the basis of the N-min method, irrigation and protection of plants against diseases and pests have been carried out according to prognosis. The soil on grass undersow treatment has less phosphate and potassium, more humus, a bigger capacity for water and air and smaller density of soil. The population of hop aphids is smaller, whereas the population of twospotted spider mite is bigger. There are no differences in technological maturity between the two techniques. The yield is higher by conventional growing, but the costs are smaller at the grass undersow technique.
