Effect of gibberellic acid and monopotassiumphosphate on flowering of lime (Citrus aurantifolia single) cv. Kai

Twice applications of 50 ppm GA3, at a two month lime, was able to inhibit flowering in lime trees between May-August. Under this 4 month period, a comparison between the treated and untreated trees for accumulated flowering percentage, number of flowers, and flower clusters were as follows: 3.9 and 37.0 %, 4.7 and 61.4 and flowers, and 1.7 and 21.7 clusters per 40 branches, respectively. After every GA3 application the TNC content and TNC:TN ratio obtained a lower level than the control trees in contrast to the increasing TN level. However, the P and K contents showed no statistical difference under GA3 influence. MPP spray, upto 3 times during September was unable to bring these treated lime trees to flower. Under this certain month, large amount of precipitation was obtained. Thus, resulting in higher soil moisture content, inturn heightened the TN level. Even though the MPP was capable to increase the leaf P and TNC levels, however, high TN level remained. The lime trees flowered once more during December with greater percentage obtained from the GA3 and MPP (2 and 3 application) treatments. As a result of experiment, the higher TNC content was obtained in contrastto the lower TN level at the time just before bud breaking of every flush. After flushing, the TNC and TN levels showed a vice versa trend. Moreover, the TNC:TN ratio in both leaf and branch showed a similar result which coincided with the TNC and TN levelsFrom these experiment results, it showed that GA3 has the inhibitory effect on flowering of lime tree.
