Effect of nitrogen and mixed fertilizers on yield of asparagus (Asparagus officinalis linn.)
1992
Suthat Prosayakul
Study on the effects of 5 fertilizer ratios and 4 rates of nytogen fertilizers on growth and yield of asparagus cultivar UC no. 309 was carried out in Kamphaeng Saen Soil. The treatments were arranged in split-plot design where 5 fertilizer ratios (0:0:0, 1:1:1, 1:2:1, 1:2:2 and 1:2:3) were considered as the main plots and four nitrogen levels (0, 27.6, 55.2 and 82.8 kg N/rai) as subplots. The six-month-old seedlings were transplanted and the harvesting was done 7 months after transplanting. The application of different fertilizer ratios resulted in the remarkable increase of fresh weight and number of spears. The three fertilizer ratios; 1:1:2, 1:2:1 and 1:2:2, were promissing in terms of asparagus growth and yield promotion. The increasing rates of nitrogen fertilizer, on the other hand, did not show any remarkable influence on asparagus growth and yield. The concentration of nitrogen and phosphorus in leaves and stems for the 285-day-after-tranplanting plant sampling was statistically increased in the 1:1:2 and 1:2:1-fertilizer treated plants. Nitrogen fertilizer application resulted in higher nitrogen content in the spears especially of 285-and 326-day-after-transplanting samplings.
