Study on replacing cassava meal for broken rice in sows gestation and lactation diets was conduced using a total of 1,151 sows for a period of 8 months. Six hundred and forty seven (647) sows were on cassava based diets and produced 6,507 piglets while 504 sows were on broken rice based diets and produced 4,627 piglets throughout the experiment. The results showed that sows on cassava meal based diets gave a significantly (P.05) greater number of piglets born alive than those on broken rice based diets. In general, sows on cassava meal based diets have slightly better reproductive performance, including less percentage of mummified and abnormal foetus than those on broken rice based diets however the differences were not significant. It was noticed that the body condition of sows on cassava meal based diets could be easier controlled than those on broken rice based diets.
