Douc Langur (Pygathrix nemaeus) is the most beautiful and valuable among langur species. Due to habitat destruction during Vietnam war, wild population of Douc Langur in Vietnum and Laos are in crisis. Many institutes try to establish breeding colonies for increasing number of Douc Langur. Because of their sophisticated biology and physiology, raising and breeding of this species are very difficult. Then quite a few number of Douc Langur was born in captivity. In Asia, captive breeding of Douc Langur was done in Thailand by Pata zoo and Dusit zoo. Under close supervision and care of zoo staffs, veterinarian and keeper, the first baby Douc Langur was born in Pata zoo. We do hope that the future of this endangered species will not be extinct from this region of the world after successful captive breeding programme.
