Bottom sediments in the eastern coast of the qulf of Thailand (Samae San Strait-Trat)

Grain size, soil composition, total organic content and type of sediments were studied in the eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand. Sampling by grab (Smith-McIntyre) at twenty one stations were carried out in June and September 1986, January, April and July 1987, April and July 1988 and January 1989. Grain sizes of sediments were in the range of 4.39-2.24 diameter or 0.-0.212 mm. The sediments composed of shell fragments, sand and silt-clay. Average values of silt-clay were in the range of 30.12-81.48 %. Types of sediments were classified as muddy sand, sandy mud and mud. Generally, the sediments at stations off Rayong province shore and along Rayong to Chanthaburi province were muddy sand. The percentage of silt-clay increased gradually towards the eastward stations and became mud in Chang strait and Trat Bay. Average values of total organic contents were in the range of 3.18-13.23 %. Total organic contents increased with increased silt-clay.
