The authors analyzed some of the quantitative characteristics of the Hungarian Large White and Duroc. They compared the results shown by two varieties with the method of factor analysis, then they calculated the inheritable factors of the two varieties by variance analysis of the paternal half-sibes. Having compared the correlation matrices, they can state that there were fewer correlated characteristics in the Duroc stock, especially in regard to the weight gain indicators and the body length, while other correlational values were largely similar in the two varieties. Based on the matrix of the rotated factor loading was found that three factors could be distinguished for the Hungarian Large White pig and five for the Duroc variety. The data for the Hungarian Large White meat type pig include for the first factor also the index of the valuable meat parts and the thickness of bacfat, while for the Duroc variety, the first factor consists of the quantily and ratio of valuable meat parts, the weight of the leg and the diameter of the cross-section of the loin. The third factor contains the three indices of the thickess of backfat. According to the calculations the inheritance parameters could be conclude as follows : They had nearly the same values for the two varieties except for the diameter the loin area (0.69-0.40) and of the quantity of the loin (0.40-0.26) and the spare ribs (0.74-0.68). The h2 values for the quantity of leg was much higher with the Duroc variety as could also be seen in the matrix of the rotated factor loading. As regard the success and effectiveness of selection, they would select for the backfat thickness in these two varieties, since the high h2 value combines with great variability. There was a significant divergence from the earlier results to the values of the loin area. The continuous rise was probably due to the admixture of fresh-blood the gene immigration every 3-4 years. There was a significant decline in the h2 values of the trunk length, probably due to the increase in selection and the decrease of the fattening period. The results gained could have a can further genetic development within breeding, with the help of selections based on a more reliable estimate of breeding value
