35 three-week-old chickens with no maternal immunity were orally infected each with 0.5 ml of the 0.001 to 0.000001 dilutions of virulent IBD virus designated as MOH 94/89. According to dilutions birds were alotted into 4 groups with 10, 7, 8 and 10 birds per group. Histopathological changes in bursa of Fabricius caused by the above domestic isolate were examined. All birds died or exterminated in the death-agony exhibited uniform changes irrespective of the titer of infecting virus. Lymphoid depletion and follicular atrophy were found dominant in each bursa. Inflammatory infiltration of interfollicular connective tissue was shown in 30 bursae (85.7 percent), karyorrhexis in the reticular cells and lymphocytes occurred in 60 percent. Necrosis (colliquation) in medullary areas of follicles occurred in 65.7 percent. Signs of the acute circulatory disorder occurred frequently in the group infected with the lower dilutions. Both the dominant histologic change and the infrequent ones together can be regarded as specific, and therefore histologic lesions permit to establish a histologic diagnosis of IBD. By establishing scores i.e. scale of values of changes particularly with knowledge of the immunological background a conclusion can be drawn to some extent, in point of virulence of the causative agent
