Newborn and pregnant animals are extremely sensitive for environmental influences and their rapid (phisiological/pathological) processes require immediate and efficient intervention. These facts give reasons, for discussing the diseases of these animals within the theme of emergency assistance. Incomplete knowledge of phisiological characteristics of the newborn animals leads to false diagnosis and wrong therapeutical intervention; and during pregnancy the veterinarians have to consider the possible effects of the medicines (teratogen and those effects which influence pregnancy and birth). After phisiological characteristics and some special sampling methods, diseases of newborn and young animals ("toxic milk" syndrome, haemorrhagic syndrome, isoerythrolysis, hypothermia, hypoglycaemia, dehydration, portosystemic shunt) are shown in the article. Care of the sick newborn animals (fluid-therapy, artificial feeding) is discussed finally
