Natural variation of Populus euphratica Oliv:1-Variation in morphological leaf characters

A nested design analysis was used to study the patterns of morphological variations in native Euphrate Poplar Leaves characteristics, eighteen traits were analysed for each of 160 samples from 40 trees scattered in four sites throughout two regions, northern and southern Ninava district along Tigris. The results showed high levels of significant variation among individual trees within sites, while it reflected at the same time lower significant variability between sites and between regions, much of this later variations may be due to local habitate. The ultimate wide range of variation patterns suggests the use of individual tree selection method in breeding and improvement programs of this species
