Egg quality as influenced by lighting and feeding regimes of laying heans during summer in Iraq

6000 Hisex Brown laying hens (18 weeks old) were used to investigate the effects on egg quality of two lighting and three feeding regimes, namely night lighting (NL) (2000-1200h) and day light (DL) (6000-2200h) and pellet ration (P), mash ration (M) and withdrawal of mash (W) for 4h. Birds were reared under cyclic temperature (25+3 hundred Centigrate) during night and (32 + 3 hundred Centigrate) during day with 70+5 relative humidity. Data were collected during 8 periods and over 112 days. NL caused a significant (P0.05) improvement in egg weight (EW), Hough unit (HU) and shell thickness (ST)(P0.01) as compared with DL. There were no significant differences among P,W and M in EW and HU, whereas ST was greater (P0.05) in P than in either W or M. The NP x NW interactions showed a significant (P0.05) increase in EW and HU. Results suggest the possibility of using NL, P and W as good tools to aleviate heat stress in hot countries as Iraq
