Effect of irrigation with waste water on some micronutrients and heavy metals levels in calcareous soil

Six soil samples out of two profiles were collected from a site located at the south of Mosul city. First profile was selected from a tomato field irrigated with municipal waste more than 20 years while the others were taken from unirrigated soil for comparison.The results indicated that samples irrigated with waste water increased concentration of Fe, Zn, Mn and Cu as micronutrients and Pb, Ni and Cd. The results showed that using waste water in irrigation also increased Fe and Cu concentration in tomato plants and decreased concentration of Mn and Zn from adequate levels. For the heavy metals Pb and Cd were increased in tomato plants where Ni was unaffected. Using waste water in irrigation give high concentration of metals which had poisoning effect such as Pb and Cd causing a harmful effect on both soil and plant
