The objective of the study was to find out whether it is useful to collect milk samples for somatic cell and lactose content additionally or to perform these analyses once a month at the same time with the usual milk records. Investigations were performed on 168 cows in the dairy herd "Ligotnes" of the research and teaching farm "Vecauce" in November and December 1996. Monthly samples were obtained as mixed afternoon milk and morning milk samples for usual milk records (fat %, protein %). Additionally afternoon samples were taken from 40 randomly selected cows weekly. Somatic cell count and lactose content in milk samples were measured by automatic analyzers "Somacount" and "Milkoscan" respectively. Conclusion: Monthly detected individual cow somatic cell count and lactose percent are objective data for udder health, as an important factor of cow economic value, estimation.
