In the given paper the authors present a review of investigations carried out at the LUA Chemistry Department on wood modification by acetylation with acetic anhydride to prevent wood biological deterioration, swelling and shrinking. A conception of wood protection against biological deterioration as well as a chemical model of whole wood acetylation with acetic anhydride are proposed.
