Five fungal isolates namely: Trichoderma pseudokoningii, T. viride, T. harzianum, Chaetomium sp. and Metarhizium anisopliae were tested in vitro for their ability to control Phytophthora isolate from coconut. T. pseudokoningii and T. viride inhibited the radial growth of Phytophtora by 69.6 percent and 63.5 percent, respectively, in the dual culture method. Culture filtrates of T. pseudokoningii suppressed the growth of Phytophthora in vitro by 75.3 percent compared to T. viride at 64.5 percent. The other fungal isolates showed lesser inhibition of the growth of the pathogen. Artificial inoculation in sterile soil to T. pseudokoningii and T. viride with Phytophthora, simultaneously or at 2 weeks intervals, were made to test the efficacy of the test fungi in suppressing colonization of Phytophthora in the soil. T. pseudokoningii inhibited soil colonization of Phytophthora by 62.7 percent when introduced simultaneously in the sterile soil. This was supported by the lowest degree of infection on the Phytophthora bait used (Malayan Red Dwarf nuts)
