Some important agronomic parameters of wheat varieties affected by seeding depth at different locations
1997
Ali, W. (NWFP Agricultural Univ. Peshawar (Pakistan). Agronomy Dept.) | Haider, A. | Ayaz, S.
The studies recorded here were carried out at three locations (Peshawar, Pirsabak and Jamra) using four wheat cultivars, viz. Pirsabak-85, Khyber-87, Pirsabak-91 and Kaghan-93 with two seeding depths of 5 and 9 cm during 1994-95 crop season. The highest number of 208 tillers/m2 and 41.22 g 10000 grain weight were noted in wheat crop planted at Pirsabak location while grains per spike were maximum at Peshawar location with 39. Depth of 5 cm gave maximum tillers/m2 and grains per spike (170 and 38, respectively) while 1000 grain weight produced were almost similar at both seeding depths. In case of varieties, Khyber-87 topped the list by producing maximum 1000 grain weight, grains per spike and spikes/m3 (41.71 g, 39 and 183, respectively). In location x Depth x Variety interaction the highest 1000 grain weight of 44.24 g was partitioned by variety Khyber-87, at Pirsabak location using 5 cm seeding depth.
