Enhancing productivity roles of farm households in a vegetable production system: a case in Liliw, Laguna [Philippines]

The study used the farm household as the unit of analysis where gender-related activities in vegetable production system were documented and discussed. Preliminary results have shown that there are indeed no remarkable differences in the tasks performed by male and female farm household members. However, when they rent out their labor to other farms, their wages vary by gender. Male farm workers received P100 per day while their female counterpart received P80 per day for the same task performed. The difference in wages is not after all a deterrent for female farm workers to be less effective and they are indeed more efficient in performing tasks like fencing, trellising, pest management and marketing which include sorting and classifying
