In field experiments carried out in 1991-93 the effect was determined of 2 stubble crops ploughed under (winter rape and papilionaceae mixed with sunflower) on some chemical and physical properties of soil and on yielding of winter triticale in a short-term monoculture. The systemic fall in corn yield of triticale grown consecutively was checked after a stubble crop ploughed under was introduced. Annual cultivation of triticale, especially when separated by intercrop of papilionaceae and sunflower, resulted in increased organic carbon and general nitrogen, whereas intercrop of rape resulted in decreased soil compaction in 0-30 cm layer. Soil moisture with monoculture, especially without intercrops, was greater than with crop rotation
