Effect of chlorotoluron and chlorsulfur on initial growth of winter triticale sown to light and medium soils at different depths

The pot experiment was carried out in a greenhouse in 1995. Winter triticale (Bolero variety) seeds were sown into light and medium soils at depths of 1.3 and 6 cm. The soil was treated with chlorotoluron (Dicuran 80 WP) and chlorsulfuron (Glean 75 DF). The growth of triticale seedlings depended on the herbicide used, depth of seeds and type of soil. The dependencies were increasing with the time passing. The emergence and initial growth of triticale mainly depended on the depth of seeds. Herbicide treatments reduced the differences. After 6 weeks, chlorotoluron-treated plants were 10 percent lower and chlorsulfuron-treated triticale plants were 4 percent lower in height, while the green matter content of a plant was 18 and 3 percent lower, respectively. After 3 months, the white mustard test revealed higher chlorotoluron and chlorsulfuron residues in the soil
