Elsadig, A.E.M. (University of Khartoum. Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Botany, Shambat (Sudan))
The experiments were conducted for three consecutive seasons 1991/92, 1992/94, in the Northern region of Sudan at ELBawga and Rubatab area (Elkudig). The experiments were conducted to show the effects of seedrates and sowing methods on the yield and yield components of lentil. Six seedrates were used (17.9, 35.8, 53.6, 71.4. 89.3 and 107.1 kg/ha). Two sowing methods were used, Flat planting in holes (farmers method) and broadcasting in rows. Season 1991/92 and 1992/93 both seedraes and sowing methods showed no significant effects on yield and yield components. In 1993/94 season sowing methods showed significant effect on grain yield in kg/ha and number of pods per plants where the effect on the rest of components was not significant. Seedrates showed highly significant effect for most components of yield. The effect of seedrates was just significant for straw yield and number of pods per plants where the harvest index effect was not significant.
