The effect of feeding hay in a region polluted by emissions of cadmium and lead was studied in the liver and thigh muscles of slaughter rabbits. The control group was made of rabbits fed a pelleted mixture from a clean environment. Close correlations were found between the concentrations of lead and cadmium in hay and in the liver of rabbits. The same correlations equal zero in relation to the content of lead and cadmium in the thigh muscle. Increased concentrations of lead and cadmium were found in liver and in the thigh muscle in some localities compared with the control. However, the concentrations did not reach hygienic limits. Results indicate that the meat breeds of rabbits are suitable for production of high-quality and wholesome meat also in localities polluted by emissions
