Conditions of the natural regeneration of English yew (Taxus baccata L.) in Strazovske Mts.

The number, structure, sanitary state and damage to the natural regeneration of yew on permanent experimental plots in a selected area in Strazovske Mts. were investigated. Results indicate that, to conserve and to promote the further spreading of this species, passive protection must be replaced by the active regulation of sylvicultural procedures. In particular, the light transmission through the canopy must be regulated, which could improve growth abilities as well as fructification
