Nine cultivars of alfalfa (Nitranka, Bobrava, Lucia. Regia, Zuzana, Morava, Palava, Magda - the assortment of the previous CSFR - and the variety Europe) were tested under greenhouse conditions for resistance to bacterial wilt and stem nematode. Compared to the control cultivar Palava, cultivars Morava and Regia were highly significantly resistant to the bacterial wilt and stem nematode and the cultivar Zuzana was significantly resistant to the stem nematode. The average disease degree by bacterial wilt at the root cross-section was 5.36 on a 7 point scale (0-healthy, 7-dead plant). For all cultivars except Europe the proportion of plants susceptible to the bacterial wilt was on average 75.67 percent and to the stem nematode 84.63 percent.
