Genotype resistance of alfalfa [Medicago sativa] to Fusarium root rot

Under greenhouse conditions and with artificial infection, 19 new crosses were evaluated for resistance to Fusarium root rot in two repeated tests, and 17 foreign alfalfa varieties compared with control varieties of domestic origin. An acceptable relation was found between degree of infection of new crosses, tested in two experiments differing in age of infected plants, and experiment length (r equals 0.56 sup (++)). Differences between the varieties tested and new crosses were statistically highly significant.
