During the years 1981-1988 a high number of viral diseases were recorded and many genotypes were rejected. Using thermotherapy and maintaining an in vitro genebank of genotypes was the first step towards protecting against genetic information losses. From 1990 onwards, through clonal selection and the Elisa test, by 1994 the number of viral infections in field trials dropped to 4.06 percent. 662 genotypes were evaluated between 1989-1994. Up to 1994 143 varieties were entered in the information system EVIGEZ. This year (1994) 294 records of genotypes are in the new information system of genetic resources in Slovakia (ISGZS)
