The work evaluates energy values of dry matter (KJ per gm) and above-ground biomass (GJ per ha) and its components determined by a water calorimeter of the KL-5 type in various stand types of European chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill) at the age of 28 years on a series of PRAs at Lefantovce (Slovakia). Highest energy values were found in fruits of European chestnut (29.55 KJ per gm) and smallest in its bark (17.08 KJ per gm). The highest total heat energy was recorded in pure stands of European chestnut (2514.84 GJ per ha), the highest proportion of which falls to stem (83.65 percent) and the smallest to fruits (1.08 percent). Of the mixed stands, thermal energy recorded in mixed stands of European chestnut and small-leaf linden (2352.08 GJ per ha) was higher than in mixed stands of European chestnut and Scotch pine (2308.54 GJ per ha)
