The effect of the processing of broiler poultry litter by six-week ensiling on nutrient composition, minerals, trace elements and microorganisms was studied. Samples of broiler poultry litter were taken from sheds in which cereal straw was used as bedding material. The litter was stuffed into transparent polyethylene bags (60 x 120 cm), at a weight of 40 kg per bag. Each bag was moistened with 2 litres of water. The dry matter, nitrogen, crude fibre, ether extract and crude ash content of the litter decreased during fermentation. After fermentation the concentration of all minerals and trace elements (Ca, P, Mg, Na, K and Cu, Fe, Zn, Al, Mn, Se, Co, Mo, Pb, As, Hg, Cd respectively) mildly decreased. Non-pathogenic bacteria were found in the poultry litter after fermentation
