Fruit rot of durian cv. Mon Thong caused by Phytophthora palmivara (Butl.) Butl. and its control

Fruit rot of durian was caused by Phytophthora palmivora (Butl.) Inoculation with mycelium, sporangium, and zoospore at wounded part of the fruit showed that mycelial disc inoculation had the highest percentage of infection (70 %). Mycelial inoculated fruits which were incubated in the moist chamber for 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 hrs had different percentages of infection. The highest percentage was obtained from the fruit at 14 hrs of incubation (100 %). The highest disease incidence (15 %) was obtained from the fruits which were dropped on the ground. Ripening procedures including dipping the fruits in ethrel at concentration of 1,000 ppm and stacked on the jute sack, stacking on the jute sack, stacking on the jute sack and covered with jute sack, dipping in ethrel at concentration of 1,000 ppm and packed in carton, without dipping in ethrel and packed in carton, and dipping in ethrel at concentration of 1,000 ppm and stacked on the pallet, all showed difference in disease incidence. Disease incidence in each procedure fruits was 10.7, 11.3, 10.3, 9.3, 6.0, and 8.0 %, respectively. In addition, storage temperature at 15, 20, 25 and 30 deg C had an influence on the disease incidence. The highest percentage of infection was obtained when fruits which were stored at 25 deg C (100 %). The efficacy of etridiazole, fosetyl - Al, and phosphonic acid in controlling this disease were conducted. To control the disease on durian which were incubated for 21 hrs, fosetyl - Al at concentration of 4,000 micro g/ml for 3 mins was the most effective method. When the incubation period was 14 hrs, dipping the fruits in fosety - Al at concentration of 2,000 micro g/ml for 1 min gave the best disease control.
