Study on the impacts of land uses on nutrient loss in the Linthin Watershed, Kanchanaburi was conducted during April 1993 to March 1994. Water samples were collected and analysed for nitrogen in the form of nitrate and ammonia, phosphorus in the form of soluble phosphate, potassium, calcium and magnesium. The results indicated that pattern of land uses, i.e. residential and agricultural area in the upper watershed, shifting cultivation area, natural forest area, animal raising area and residential and agricultural area in the lower basin at Linthin watershed was effected on the nutrients loss in the tributaries. The residential and agricultural area in the lower basin produced the heaviest loss of nitrate, phosphate, calcium and magnesium at the concentration of 0.261 0.009 67.77 and 17.63 mg/l respectively. The animal raising area caused the heaviest loss of ammonia at 0.048 mg/l while the natural forest area caused the heaviest loss of potassium at 2.45 mg/l. In conclusion, effect of the land uses on nutrients loss in the basin still have no adverse effect on the quality of water at present. However, it was expected that, if we let that situation continuously without any effective regulation and prevention program, it might be probably created some problems in the future.
