The main research aim was to investigate natural population of wild pear and select valuable germplasm which will be evaluated for resistance to disease and unfavourable environmental conditions useful for scion and rootstock breeding. Fifty genotypes of wild pear are described out of which three are producing sprouts which are very valuable as inicial material for breeding vegetative pear rootstock. Quantitative and qualitative evaluation of collected germplasm was done according to IBPGR Descriptor list for pear. On the basis of morphological variability, qualitative and quantitative characteristics, wild pear genotypes in the region of Bijelo Polje (Montenegro, Yugoslavia) belong to species Pyrus communis.
