As excellent efficacy of clindamycin given at a daily dose of 400 mg/kg in acute murine Toxoplasma gondii infection has previously been shown, the objective of this study was to evaluate its therapeutical effects when administered at doses corresponding to those used in human therapy, i.e. 50 (C50) and 25 mg/kg BM (C25). The evaluation of the efficacy of the treatment was based on mouse survival and mean survival times. The efficacy of human therapeutical doses of clindamycin in murine toxoplasmosis was further documented by the regression of pathological changes in the brain, lungs, liver, spleen and regional lymph nodes of treated animals. The protective effect of clindamycin adminstered at human therapeutical doses was established at both the biological and histological levels.
