The present study was undertaken to analyze the hypocotyl anatomy of different sugar beet lines in order to find out a relationship between sugar beet structure vascular tissue primarily, and its yield components. Ten monogerm sugar beet lines of different origin and phenotypic characteristics were used. The obtained results show that root yield depends upon parenchyma tissue development and size of vascular tissue, xylem in particular, while sugar content is more influenced by the number of vascular rings and phloem height of vacular system. No correlation was found between sugar content and the root yield, whereas a highly significant positive correlation between root yield and sugar yield was obtained.
