Influence of heavy metals emitted by thermoelectrical power plants and chemical industry on Kosovo soils microflora [Yugoslavia]. [A short version of doctoral dissertation]

The great industrial plants, RMHK "Trepca" and thermoenergetical complex "Kosovo A and B" are located in the area of Kosovska Mitrovica and Pristina (Yugoslavia). They are potentially very great polluters and make the area one of very imperilled regions of Yugoslavia. The investigated localities are placed at various distances from the heavy metals pollution sources and on various soil types. The localities near Kosovska Mitrovica had a high content of heavy metals, especially Zn, Pb, Ni and Cd, but the localities near Pristina had significantly lower content of Cu, Co, Zn, Pb, Ni and Cd. It was established that heavy metals, depending of concentration, and physical and chemical traits, influenced the number and activity of soil microorganisms to a larger or smaller degree. The soil samples were dilluted in laboratory and the dillution of 10E-4 was used for sowing. Culture media were sown with 0.5 ml of inoculum or for some groups of microorganisms directly with soil granules, and all this was done in three repetitions
