Soil and landscape information is the main component in making decisions, plans for many sectors of research and development, reliable information on the location, extent and quality of soil and land resources is the first requirement in planning for the sustainable mamagement of land resources. The introduction of information systems and other computer systems enables a much easier way of information gathering, processint and disseminating of soil and landscape information for its use for different purposes. Geographic information systems are a versatile tool to automate the transformation of soil and landscape data into information for users. Such systems, with the capability of rapidly including and processing new information on relevant factors, would help to improve and promote the use of soil and landscape information.
