Effect of seeding dates on the performance of wheat varieties in Rangpur region [Bangladesh]
1995
Mannaf, M.A.
Eight wheat cultivars (Sonalika, Balaka, Ananda, Kanchan, BAW - 38, Barkat, Akbar and BAW - 51) were sown in six different dates (1 November, 15 November, 1 December, 15 December, 1 January and 15 January) to identify suitable variety(s) and their optimum seeding time. Kanchan produced significantly higher yield (3.03 t/ha) than all other varieties. Seeding dates exhibited a significant effect on grain yield. The seeding of wheat from 15 November to 1 December produced highest yield (2.64-2.75 t/ha) regardless of varieties. Seeding dates and varieties interacted significantly in yield and yield attributes of wheat. Kanchan gave significantly higher yields from 15 November to 1 December compared to other seeding dates indicating that this period appeared as its optimum time of sowing. This variety also out- yielded all other varieties in respect to all seeding dates indicating its greater potentiality for both early and delayed sowing compared to other varieties. The remaining varieties yielded significantly lower than Kanchan but had shown a wide range of sowing time (1 November to 15 December) without significantly affecting grain yield. BAW -38 showed even a much wider range (1 November to 1 January).
