Detailed phenotypic and genotypic characterization of glufosinate resistant pollinator and male sterile transgenic lines

Plants from several genotypes, all transformed using a construct containing the pat gene driven by the 35S promoter, have been analysed. Various molecular, biochemical and biological tests were performed to compare and characterize the accurate level of resistance of these plants. Plants showing an optimal level of resistance were selected for the development of breeding material. Detailed Southern blot hybridization and PCR analyses have been performed to identify the insert and its different components. Different molecular approaches have confirmed the non-expression of the co-integrated sequences.
