The aim of the work to study the influence of the applied meliorants on acidic and sorption properties of alfalfa evaluated by the cation content in biomass. A plant material was taken from the pot experiment with alfalfa carried out a pseudopodzolic soil contaminated with increasing copper concentrations in the range 0-900 mg Cu per kg soil. The meliorants used to reduce the copper toxicity were CaCO3, compost of CaCO3 and coal dust 1:4 and coal dust in different amounts. The content of H+, Ca2+, K+ and Mn2+ ions in water solible and exchange adsorbed state in biomass was determined. The relative distribution of cations in the liquid and adsorption phase of alfalfa tissues was trace depending on the applied meliorants. The influence of the meliorants on the acidic and sorption properties of alfalfa was manifested in a different degree depending on the soil copper levels.
