Possibilities for suppression of the development, limitation of the multiplying and spreading of Xanthium strumarium L. - a weed of economic importance - have been investigated through applying subletal doses of the herbicide zenkor (metribuzin 70% a. l.). Influence of subletal doses of metribuzin has been determined by estimating the weed condition periodically and by the following indexes: average hight of plants (cm), number of seeds, mass of seeds (g), activity of the enzyme nitratereductase in weed leaves (mMoles NO2/g. fresh weight/hour). Examination prove that by applying subletal doses of the herbicide metribuzin it is possible to achieve the folloing: reduceing the competitive ability and multiplying the weed Xanthium strumarium L.; preventing the soil from polution with the herbicide metribuzin.
